Everything local is the foundation of the charm and appeal of Downtown Lake Worth Beach. Its individualistic retail and exceptional eateries make it the perfect place to celebrate Small Business Week 2021. From Monday, May 3 through Sunday, May 9, 2021, visitors and residents are encouraged to patronize their favorite Lake Worth Beach places and support the backbone of Downtown’s economy.

“After a very difficult year, the timing of Small Business Week couldn’t be better as more people are now vaccinated and in circulation again – albeit with safety measures still in place,” said Joan Oliva, Executive Director of the Lake Worth Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA). “More people are confident about venturing out , and we want to draw attention to all of the opportunities offered by Downtown Lake Worth Beach. We are open for business, but very mindful about keeping the patrons of our businesses safe.”

The annual event that is part of the programming by the Small Business Administration (SBA) is meant to highlight the importance of entrepreneurs and small business owners across the United States. According to the SBA, half of Americans either work or own a small business and small businesses create an estimated two out of every three jobs in the U.S. each year. The numbers are even more staggering in Lake Worth Beach, where several small businesses makeup the Downtown center.

mtn space, a freshly opened art gallery in Lake Worth Beach, is planning to celebrate Small Business Week with a special “Small Works Show,” which will feature an installation of small-scale projects from resident artists.

“We hope to use this opportunity to bring in new customers,” said Melissa DelPrete, owner of mtn space. “The nature of small work means these pieces will also be at a very accessible price point, which we are excited about. The 'small works' theme fits into the humble creative vibrations throughout the City, one of the many reasons I chose to live and open a business here.”

Farmer Girl Restaurant owner Petro Bikos agrees with DelPrete’s sentiment that Lake Worth Beach is an ideal location for small business owners and entrepreneurs. “Lake Worth Beach is an up-and-coming city that is developing very nicely,” Bikos said. “That’s why I had no hesitation taking over and renovating Farmer Girl Restaurant when my uncle decided to retire last year.”

The Lake Worth Beach CRA is marking this week with several programs during Small Business Week, including social media competitions and small business workshops. For more information, please visit the CRA’s Facebook page at the handle, @lwcra.
